Reading the coverage map

See which buyer questions your live pages already answer, where demand is going unanswered, and how to turn that into planned work.

The coverage map shows what you have live and what buyers are looking for that you are not winning yet. Open it from Coverage map in the left rail. Every cell is clickable: click one to pin a detail panel under the grid, listing the pages or topics behind the number.

How the grid is laid out

Three columns, one per stage of a buyer's journey:

ColumnStageWhat it holds
EducateFirst questionPages that answer questions and teach your audience.
EvaluateComparing optionsPages that help buyers weigh options and shortlist you.
ConvertFinal actionPages built to drive a signup, demo, or purchase.

Two rows, carrying different kinds of claim:

  • Pages you have: live pages only. Every number traces to a page you can open, counting pages already on your site and pages Iterant published.
  • Demand you aren't winning: topics buyers search and competitors rank for, where you have no live page. Iterant infers this row from competitor coverage rather than measuring it from your own data, and the panel says so each time you open it.

The markers

  • ✓ Live: a page is published, yours or one Iterant built. The top-row cell shows the live count, or none yet.
  • ◐ planned: a page opportunity you have decided on but have not published. Planned work sits on the demand row, since you do not win that demand until the page is live.
  • ○ open: demand with no page and no plan yet. This is the remainder you can act on.
  • ·: a quiet cell, with no demand detected and nothing planned.

The bottom row leads with the total (open plus planned), then breaks it down, so 11 / ◐ 2 planned · ○ 9 open means eleven topics you aren't winning, two of them already in motion.

The Convert column is different

Competitor keyword gaps do not expose conversion demand, so Convert spans both rows as a single Conversion readiness cell: a presence check over five essentials.

  • Pricing
  • Demo
  • Free trial
  • Comparison
  • Case study

Each essential shows the live page that covers it, or no page found yet. The check runs against your own live pages and skips blog posts and other editorial pages, so a post that mentions pricing does not satisfy the Pricing essential.

What the pinned panel tells you

Click the Pages you have cell for a column and the panel lists the live pages behind the count, tagged we built or your site, with filter chips when both are present. Titles link out to the live page.

Click the Demand you aren't winning cell and you get up to four groups, in this order:

  1. The openings. Topics with no page. Some carry the note you have content nearby but no page for this: you have adjacent material, but nothing that answers this specific demand.
  2. Planned pages, not live yet. Each row opens that opportunity's detail drawer in place, so you can check the brief or dismiss it without leaving the map.
  3. Your site already answers this demand, but is not winning it yet. These are improve recommendations, each linking to the existing page to strengthen. They never count as openings, and they carry no create button.
  4. You may already cover these. Review before creating anything new. Topics where the check could not decide: no link, no count, no create button.

Where the numbers come from

The top row reads your live pages: pages Iterant published plus pages already on your site, de-duplicated by URL. The bottom row reads demand data built from gaps your competitors rank for, weighted by monthly search volume. A topic counts as an opening once its backing demand clears a volume floor. Below that floor it stays off the map.

Under the grid you will see either:

  • Based on search volume and competitor rankings, updated 3 days ago. The relative time is your staleness signal. If it reads "updated 3 weeks ago", treat the demand row as stale.
  • We haven't checked search demand for this brand yet. Nothing has been checked, so the bottom row has nothing to show.

Turning the map into work

The map is a read-only surface. You act from the pinned panel:

  • Openings → the panel's Plan these in your calendar link takes you to your calendar, where you schedule the pages that will close them. An opening has no page yet, so it is not on the calendar until you put it there.
  • Planned rows → click the title to open the opportunity drawer and build, reschedule, or dismiss it.
  • Improve rows → click through to the live page and strengthen it.

A workable weekly loop: scan the lede at the top of the map, which names the column with the most demand you aren't winning, open that column's demand cell, work down the openings, and check that the planned group is moving.

Source material

Below the grid sits Source material: everything Iterant has learned about your brand, from your site and your uploads. It stays expanded while you have few documents and collapses once the set is established. Use Add source content at the top of the page to upload more. Better source material makes both the pages you build and the brand facts they cite more accurate.
